Age calculators

Dog and cat age conversions are familiar human-age analogies rather than biological-age measurements. Both models assign 15 years to the first pet year and 9 to the second. Later cat years add 4; later dog years add 4, 5, 6, or 7 according to the selected adult-size group. Reverse conversion applies the same piecewise model in the opposite direction.

Limitations include breed, genetics, health, body condition, and individual lifespan. AAHA notes that life stage is better understood through age and characteristics than a literal human-age equivalent.

Food calculators

Resting Energy Requirement (RER) is calculated as 70 × body weight in kilograms^0.75. A selected life-stage/activity factor produces a starting daily estimate. Label conversion is daily kcal × 100 ÷ kcal per 100 g, or daily kcal ÷ kcal per cup, can, or pouch.

Applied factors are broad defaults and are displayed beside the result. They do not account for every condition or individual. The tools intentionally do not prescribe weight loss.

Body condition score

The body-condition tool presents the nine-point dog and cat scale in plain language. It combines visual observation with rib and body-shape descriptions, but a reliable assessment also needs hands-on palpation. Muscle condition is separate.

Trackers, privacy, and exports

Weight, growth, saved results, and vaccination data remain in browser storage unless the user exports a file. PawSprouts does not synchronize these records to an account. Clearing site data or changing browsers can remove them. Vaccination status is based only on the next-due date entered; no schedule is generated.
